While I was out at movie trivia with some friends last night, the topic of my “Substack” somehow managed to come up (not my fault). I was asked if my Substack offered paid subscriptions, and when I said that it did not yet, but that I planned to turn them on at 100 more subscribers from my current amount (a solid milestone, methinks), I was encouraged to turn paid subs on anyway when I revealed that current amount of subscribers, because it’s still a solid amount and there might be one or two people in here willing to throw me a bone. I also love money and the prospect of having more of it, so this idea easily swayed me.
So, this is my announcement post that I am turning on paid subscriptions. It’s kind of annoying that Substack doesn’t let you offer anything less than $5/month, as I initially wanted to offer $1-$2 and then increase that amount as my followers increased and time went on. $5/month is more than I think this Substack is worth, so I’m not going to beg for your money or expect many people to sign up just yet. But I don’t know — maybe there are a few children of oil barons in this subscriber base who feel comfortable setting aside $5/month for Brianna Zigler. Who am I to tell them not to?
I will also begin to implement “subscriber only” posts to add a special treat to the idea of paying me. I’m not sure what those posts will look like — in the future, it will be more of the actual essays and articles I plan to publish here, since I guess it would make sense that I want to be paid to write those (I’m certainly not getting paid to write them anywhere else. Haha!). But for now, the ones I have lined up will remain free to encourage subscriptions and prove worthiness. Maybe I’ll just make the blog posts a little more unhinged for my most loyal subs.
