This is an email for all current That’s Weird subscribers to let you know that That’s Weird has been bought out by corporate conglomerate BriZigs LLC. Stocks are down, investments are NOT GOOD. All our pie charts and graphs are totally fucked up. Those of us over at That’s Weird are proud of the work that we’ve put in for the last two years and all that we’ve accomplished as a small business, but we’ve decided that we can no longer afford things in their current state. Thus, we have allowed the good people at BriZigs LLC to take control. This new ownership will take effect in early 2023.
So, you probably have a few questions….
What does this mean for me, a subscriber of That’s Weird?
It doesn’t actually mean anything other than That’s Weird is dead. I’m done with it.
Well, you’ve already resurrected That’s Weird once before, so—
Shut up. I hear you, but this time is going to be different. Listen to me. LISTEN TO ME!!! If there’s anything I’ve learned in the past year it’s that I detest boxing my writing into any sort of theme or quota. It makes me not want to write and it makes me hate what I’m writing. Another thing I learned in the past year is that if I have an idea that isn’t flying as a pitch at publications, I often still want to write about it. I believe in my ideas and it makes me sad when I can’t bring them to life because of the arbitrations of editors. I’d like to have a place to put any and all of these rejected ideas, and other stuff, too.
Another thing that I’ve learned is that people will not stop subscribing to this newsletter. I am not kidding. I haven’t put out a single piece of new writing in six months and I continue to steadily accrue new subscribers. I gain way more subscribers than I ever lose. This is insane to me. I am not writing anything! For a while it was funny and even a little annoying to me, but it’s become the main reason why I want to give this newsletter thing another go. If I was hemorrhaging subscribers I would feel an impetus to take this newsletter out back and shoot it. But there’s a lot of writing on here that I’m proud of, and I guess it’s enough to keep people interested that maybe I will write something like that again. The plan is now that I will.
Ok, fine, I’m listening. So, what exactly is BriZigs LLC?
BriZigs LLC will be a place for any of my (Brianna Zigler) writing, blogging, and thoughts that are not publishable at respected institutions such as The WAshington Post, The New York Times, and The Wall Street journal. I’m just going to write whatever I want here. No gimmicks! No themes! No weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, tri-monthly! I’ll write whatever I want, whenever I want. I’m not going to let you or anyone tell me what I can and can’t write. Maybe I’ll write something stupid, maybe I’ll write something smart, maybe I’ll write something that is kind of stupid and kind of smart. This is the sort of boundless free-thinking you can expect from BriZigs LLC…
This is very aggressive….I’m not sure I want to stay subscribed…
I’m sorry.
It’s ok.
Ok.
Anything else we should know?
Yes. I am going to monetize this newsletter very soon. I’m reaching a subscriber count where I think it makes sense that at least a few of you would pay me for my little thoughts, and then I will realistically put out even more writing, gain more subscribers, and get paid even more for my little thoughts. I would love to reach a point where this newsletter can support even a moderate stream of income for me and I believe that this is feasible in the near future.
Are you done?
Almost. Sorry if you really liked That’s Weird, but I didn’t. I hope most of you like my writing enough that you’ll stay subscribed through this transitional period of being acquired by BriZigs LLC. It is understandable to be suspicious of big business acquisitions but I feel confident that the dissolution of That’s Weird into BriZigs LLC will pump our numbers up and get business back on track.*
I very much enjoy your writing and will gladly follow it wherever BriZigs LLC wants to take it.
